This past week has been one of great growth and great frustration. I have

not been "out" in ministry in over a week. First, I had injured myself

jogging one day, and then I caught a bug that left my stomach too sick to do

ministry, and after that I felt dizzy and my head was hurting. After a few

days of feeling like I was on a boat, I went to visit Dr. Louis (a wonderful

South African physician). At this time, I was relieved to find out that I

was not having migraines but had an inner ear infection. I am now taking

medicine and it is starting to get better. I am hoping to be back in

ministry next week. Having to stay back day after day was very frustrating,

but our ministries require lots of walking and even though I really wanted

to return to Atteridgeville, I knew that I had to stay back. Since I have

been in Africa, the Lord has been speaking to me about ministering to the

team. He has been reminding me that ministry doesn't end at 5, and that

praying for my team is powerful and important. He has given me the

opportunity to care for sick teammates and pray for many of my friends, and

has just shown me the importance in these actions (He has also provided

great friends to care for me when I am sick). This has been hard, as I want

to be out and about, but I am learning to say not my will! During this time

of sickness, the Lord also had plenty of time to speak to me! He has been

teaching me so much about who I am in Christ! Before I left, Mrs. Ruth gave

me a wonderful book called "Miracle at Tenwek", which has changed my life.

This book documents the life of a missionary physician in Kenya named Dr.

Ernie Steury. Seeing the similar passion of missions and medicine in another

individual and learning about how the Lord moved through him has encouraged

me to continue in my pursuit of God's calling on my life. The Lord revealed

to me critical characteristics which were developed in Dr. Steury and which

need to be present in my life, things that I am called to. He then

challenged me to study these qualities from a Biblical perspective.

Qualities like: healer, physician, humble, committed, patient, listener,

servant, intercessor... all these and many more are needed in my life if I

am going to live in the identity that I was made for. Towards the end of the

book one person comments that, "Dr. Steury knew who he was. And he knew who

had sent him. He was a true missionary. As the apostle Paul would say,

‘Follow me, as I follow Christ.' Dr. Steury could say the same thing. He was

a Christian example to so many people." This is what the Lord is speaking to

me. Know who you are, and know who has called you, and then you will be able

to live the life I have called you to. So I am seeking these things,

studying the names of God, asking Him to reveal who I am to him, and

learning to live in this understanding. Thank you for your prayers, and know

that the Lord absolutely provided for my medical care. I actually loved

going to the doctor and tried to absorb all I could from this amazing

Christian physician. God is great! I continue to say daily how much God

loves me, because He is blowing my mind! While in Africa, I have asked the

Lord a lot about how to mix medicine, faith, and healing, and the motto of

Tenwek hospital has been my answer: "We treat. Jesus heals. To God be the

glory." God has done mighty things in ministry this week, healed the

crippled, provided for a sick baby, fed the spiritually hungry and so much

more. I am excited to see how the Lord continues to move. Please read my

friends' blogs and praise God for all his mighty workings! Also so you know

who I live with, my roommates are: Melissa Hintz, Chelsea Dymond, Michelle

Goette, Kelsey, Kristen Gardenhire, Nicole, and Martha (sorry for any

misspelled last names or lack of last names). I have spent a lot of time

with Michelle J. and Elisa as well, and in reality we all spend all our time

together! Thanks for reading these postings and for keeping me updated on

life back at home. It is such an encouragement to know that so many people

are praying for us! I look forward to posting again next week and testifying

to the powerful God that we serve!
